Weehawken is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. Located on the Hudson River, nestled between Hoboken, Union City and West New York, Weehawken is on the southern end of the 180-foot-high cliffs known as the Palisades. While its earlier residential and commercial growth took place atop those cliffs, since the early 2000’s there has been extensive development on the waterfront, giving those who find their way to this Hudson County town ample choices of where to live and shop in its 1.4 square miles.
Divided not only by an uptown and downtown, Weehawken is also bisected by Interstate 495 and the helix entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel. Because of this, the town has several distinct neighborhoods: King’s Bluff, at the edge of the cliffs with unobstructed views of Manhattan; Uptown, with the main commercial activity along Park Avenue; the Heights, above the Lincoln Tunnel entrance, characterized by two- and three-family houses; and the Shades, on the southern waterfront, with a mix of new housing and older homes that are being updated.
Weehawken provides access to some of the best restaurants with some of the most spectacular views of the Manhattan Skyline along its waterfront. Looking to go to a park in Weehawken? There’s Hamilton Park, which offers great views of the New York City skyline, as well as benches and a gorgeous lawn, or Old Glory Park, a small landscaped area that also offers wonderful views of NYC and the Hudson River. Plus there are shopping and dining options in abundance on Park Avenue, the main strip in Weehawken.
There are multiple transportation options available in Weehawken, including New Jersey Transit buses, NY Waterway Ferries, and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, which provides Weehawken residents with transportation to Hoboken, Jersey City, and Bayonne, where they can access PATH trains, NJ Transit Rail, and more.
